Fees, Funding and Rebates

Fees vary depending of whether you are seeking therapy or assessment services, however a standard consultation is $220 per hour (below the recommended scheduled fee set by the Australian Psychological Society) and initial consultation is $285 per hour. It should be noted that while these quoted fees are standard, fees may vary depending on which practitioner is seen.  Fees can be claimed through Medicare and health insurance funds.

Government Funded Early Intervention Therapist
If your child is under 7 years and has been diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder or other recognised disability (such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Fragile X Syndrome, Hearing and/or Vision impairment) you are eligible for early intervention funding.

The Australian Government has introduced two funding packages:

    1. Helping Children with Autism
    2. Better Start for Children with a Disability

These programs help to provide children and their families with the necessary funding to implement early intervention services. Eligible children have access to a funding package of up to $12,000 per child (maximum $6,000 per financial year). Funding can only be used to pay for therapy provided by Government approved early intervention services.  Sydney Child Psychology Centre is an approved provider. To learn more about the funding and to check the eligibility criteria, please visit the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FAHCSIA) website.

Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS)
ATAPS enables GPs to refer consumers to ATAPS mental health professionals who deliver focussed psychological strategies at no cost to the consumer. Through ATAPS, patients are eligible for a maximum of 12 sessions per calendar year – six time-limited sessions with an option for a further six sessions following a mental health review by the referring GP. Sessions can be individual and/or group therapy sessions. ATAPS provides patients with assistance for short-term intervention.  If further sessions are required it may mean that the patient needs a longer term program to meet his/her needs.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

NDIS supports people with a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to take part in everyday activities. To learn more about the funding and to check eligibility please visit the website.
